Where is Spring? Snow Day #8

So another snow storm another snow day. It is hard to believe that it was in the 70s just a week ago and now we have a huge snow storm. Thursday morning was great, but by noon, we had sleet. They released school an hour early and I left right away. The snow was falling fast and furious and I was saying some serious prayers as I was picking up the kids because people were sliding off the road left and right. There was even a report of an head on collision by where I pick up Adara. Thank God we made it home safely. I didn't think they were going to call off school because between 3:30 and 5, it stopped snowing, but by six it was snowing like crazy again. I think we got about 7 inches of snow. As always it was fun to stay home with the kids, I just wish the weather was nicer so we could go out and play.

This is what I woke up to Friday morning. The dogs had gotten into my bags of flour. I was so pissed off, I almost killed them. I was planning on trying a recipe for whole wheat pancakes, but as you can see from the picture, I didn't have any to use that morning. Let's just say the dogs are not in my good graces. They have been getting into the trash lately. I don't know what's up, but they are driving me crazy!

Since I am the photographer of the house I hardly get my picture taken, but Deji was being so cute and cuddly that Ryan went and got the camera on his own. Of Course my hair is looking crazy, but the moment was too sweet not to put the picture up. I was holding Adara and Deji decided he wanted to hangout so he had his arms around my neck and every once in a while he will give me kisses.

Great picture that Ryan took.

Here is Femi showing off his balance. Who needs to enroll him in an expensive gymnastic class! This kid is a natural.

Deji was hamming it up for the camera.

It was too icy to ride the scooter outside, so the boys rode it inside.

Deji spending some quality time with his little sister. I think he was teaching her how to say Jesus.

The day finally ended with all three kids taking a bath together. Got to love snow days!

Spring Teaser

Today's weather was absolutely wonderful. It was a little over 70 degrees for the high. We took advantage of the weather and went to Happy Rock park with the kids. We ran around and kicked the balls around and even made some friends. The temperature is suppose to drop about 40 degrees tomorrow and go back to the 30s and 40s. It does give us something to look forward to.

Deji trying to throw the ball.

Ryan sharing a sweet moment with Adara.

Femi practicing his soccer skills. I think I want to enroll him in a soccer camp this summer. And also start him with piano lessons. I can't believe he will be four come June.

Femi with his new found friend. I swear the boy can make friends with a rock. He is not shy like his mother.

Play date with Isaac and Leah

Leah and Isaac John came over to play with the boys. We have know the Johns for about 2.5 years. I remember the first time I saw Grace. Ryan and I were working in the Nursery at church. Grace and her husband Anush were dropping off Isaac and she was pregnant with Leah. I knew that I wanted to be her friend that day. Long story short they joined our small group and we have been friends since. Her kids are beautiful just like she is.

Here is the gorgeous Leah. Deji's future wife. :)

Learning to share trucks.

Femi and Isaac playing "bad guys".

We had a nice snack break.

After snack they decided they wanted to watch a movie. Adara even joined in the fun. (The movie watching didn't last too long. They all wanted to move around.)

We then decided to build a fort/tent and have snacks inside.

Having fun!

Here is Femi trying to play in the fort, eat his snack and watch the movie. Can we say multitasker.

What play date wouldn't be complete without dressing up as superheros. We had a great day and I can't wait to do again!

Bombshell Besties Brunch @ Chez Elle

I love my children, but it is so nice to be able to get away from them every now and then. Today I was able to make the Bombshell Besties Brunch with Linda and Rachel. I have know both ladies for about six years now. We all taught 5th grade at Shoal Creek Elementary. We went our separate ways four years ago, but kept in touch with each other. We decided that we wanted to meet monthly, so now every first Saturday of the month we meet at Chez Elle for crepes and great conversation. I missed January's meeting because little miss Adara was sick. She was able to make it this time.

Adara with Rachel. She kept getting distracted by the table and wouldn't look at the camera. The picture with all four of us was blurry, so hopefully next month we can have a nice group picture.

Power of Prayer

I have been working on laying my burdens on God's feet, even the little things. It is harder to do than expected, because I want to feel that I am in control. I know I am not, but letting go is hard to do. Well this morning God showed me that if I just let Him take over, great things will happen. Our bathroom faucet has been leaking for months now and yesterday it started really dripping. Ryan had tried fixing it before, but he couldn't turn off the main water valve. Well this morning while in the shower I ask God to help Ryan turn it off. I don't know why I decided to pray this morning, maybe it was because I knew the problem was getting worse and we didn't really have the money for the plumber. I didn't tell Ryan about my prayer even when he asked me if we should call a plumber. We talked it over and decided it would be worth it to pay with the credit card instead of watching money flow down the drain. He was ready to call, when he went downstairs without me saying anything and tried to shut off the main water valve. Guess what...he could do it this time. It was amazing. I know it was God who told him to go down there and try again before he called the plumber. When I told Ryan that I had prayed earlier that he would be able to shut off the valve, he was surprised. He didn't believe me. I have been trying to gt him to trust God more and lay his burdens at His feet. Hopefully today he can see that prayers do get answered no matter how small it may seem.

The Blizzard of 2011

Well we survived the "Blizzard of 2011!" I think this was one of the worst storms for the KC area in a very long while. We ended up getting about 9.5 inches of snow which was less than they predicted. Some parts of Missouri did end up getting about 20-25 inches of snow. They let us out of school an hour early on Monday because of ice. By Tuesday afternoon there was about 3 inches of snow. I called Lase and Dayo to make sure they were okay. Both had to report to work, but ended up coming back home. Kansas City was like a ghost town on Wednesday. Many businesses shut down, inculding the government offices. Both Kansas and Missouri called in national guards to help and declared state of emergencies. I70 was closed from KC to Saint Louis. I am just glad that it didn't hit us hard as other areas. Of course schools were closed. We were off Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This means that we are going to have to make up the snow days during our Spring Break. The kids handled the storm and being stuck at home pretty well. Femi was sick the entire week, and Ryan got sick Wednesday night and has to stay home on Friday. But overall things were okay. I need to do some cleaning, but I enjoyed just spending time with the kids.

We just hung out and tried not to drive each other crazy.

I practice putting Adara on my back. She didn't mind it one bit and actually fell asleep back there. I need to do this more often so I can have my hands free.

Poor Femi was asleep most of the week. I hate it when he gets sick. He is already skinny, I don't need him losing any more weight. This is the longest he has ever been sick.

Deji decided to pass the time by reading to the dogs.

Here are some snap shots of the snow and the scene outside.

Sick Days

I think one of the hardest thing about being a parent is watching your children be sick. You want to help them, but there isn't much for you to do. Femi was sick with a fever. He basically moved from his bed to the couch and stayed on the couch all day. He did not want to move. It's ironic that when they are healthy and running around crazy, all you want them to do is sit still and be quiet, and when they quiet and still because of an illness all you want them to do is run around and be loud. Femi had to stay home from school, he even asked to stay home. He is on the mend, but still running a low grade fever. I pray that my little man will be running around like crazy soon.
